About Us

Koraput District located in the backdrop of green valley’s contemplating immaculate freshness, was established on 1st April, 1936. Decorated by forests, waterfalls, terraced valleys and darting springs, the District draws the nature loving people. The Koraput District lies at 17.4 degree to 20.7 degree North latitude and 81.24 degree to 84.2 degree east longitude. The District is bounded by Rayagada in the east, Bastar District of Chhatisgarh in the west and Malkangiri District in the south.
IDS started as a Civil Society Organization in 1990 by the Save the Children Fund (UK), Koraput District Administration and community people to address Tribal and marginalized people in the drought hit rural villages of Dasamanthpur Block in Koraput District. IDS got itself registered under Societies Registration Act of 1860 and also with the Ministry of Home, Govt. of India under foreign Contribution Regulation Act of 1976. After the withdrawal of SCF (UK) in 1997, now the Organization is being managed by a group of local committed people assisted by a group of professionals.

IDS facilitates the development of a new social order in which the present unorganized and marginalized people are able to participate in decision making and where the decisions of individuals and communities are based on the values of social justice, equity, truth, freedom and the dignity of human life. It works explicitly with the tribal people, dalits and other marginalized groups by training them and making them aware about the importance of education, health and sustainable development as well as governance. IDS also have been facilitating proper implementation of Panchayat Raj Institutions at different level, starting from village to district level. IDS advocacy strategy for benefitting poor tribal with service providers including government has been well recognized by various partner agencies including district administration.
IDS has identified a number of most needy, disadvantages / vulnerable children in the area more particularly those who have been denied to their basic rights like food, health and education and supporting them.

Mission Statement

The overall aim of IDS is to promote holistic and sustainable development of deprived people and their families creating a new society of human beings living with respect and free of exploitation. The society that is established to facilitate the development of a “ new social order”, where the voice of every single person is equally evaluated on the values of social justice, equity, truth, freedom and the dignity of human life, so they can express their needs, interests and desires that once was blocked by the unorganized and mightiness.

Promoting diversity, humanity, and tolerance in the society, we help strengthen the social, cultural, ethnic, and religious ethics facilitating education to create awareness, empowering skills and fosters for the growth of men and women, preferential option for the poor in health issue and organizing various programs and seminars to teach income generating strategies, and create general awareness among the citizens.

IDS’s entire philosophy is based on the values of non-discrimination, equality, non-violence and the eradication of poverty, illiteracy and inequality. It works primarily with tribals, dalits and other indigenous people.

Millions of people in the world live a life in abject poverty, and this has been going on for centuries. Our vision is to offer the life to the marginal communities to all its fullness. We seek a world of hope, tolerance and social justice where every woman, men & child has right to go forth of their nest of poverty and develop their livelihood with peace, dignity and security.
