Our Story

Founded in 1990, Integrated Development Society (IDS) emerged from the collective efforts of dedicated local development activists, with the support of Save the Children Fund (SCF) and the local district administration. IDS began its journey in the tribal heartland of Dasmantpur Block of Koraput district, Odisha, with a commitment to improving the lives and livelihoods of poor and marginalized tribal communities.

 Following the withdrawal of SCF’s support in 1997, IDS continued its mission under the leadership of committed local social workers and the guidance of experienced professionals. The organization transformed this challenge into an opportunity to strengthen its community roots, expand its vision, and deepen its commitment to sustainable and inclusive development.

Over the past three decades, IDS has evolved from a grassroots tribal development initiative into a child-focused and community-driven organization, with a strong commitment to the protection and holistic development of orphaned, abandoned, and vulnerable children through its Child Care Institution and Adoption Agency. At the same time, IDS has continued its long-standing work with tribal, Dalit, and other marginalized communities to address poverty, inequality, and social exclusion.

Through participatory, need-based, and multi-sectoral interventions, IDS has expanded its work across Koraput and Rayagada districts in the Eastern Ghats of Odisha. Its programmes span child protection, sustainable agriculture, natural resource management, climate resilience, food security, health, education, local governance, women and youth empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods. IDS promotes a balanced approach that values traditional indigenous knowledge while integrating appropriate modern practices, including sustainable farming techniques, conservation of local seed varieties, and organic cultivation methods.

 Throughout its journey, IDS has remained guided by the principles of social justice, equality, secularism, participation, and human dignity. The organization believes that lasting change is possible when communities become active participants in shaping their own future. By empowering vulnerable children, strengthening families, and enabling marginalized communities to realize their potential, IDS continues to work toward a society where every person can live with dignity, security, and opportunity.
